Aging Trends Equate to Major Homecare Franchise Opportunities

If you’ve been eyeing homecare franchise opportunities near you, now’s the time to make to make your move! Today’s post reviews aging trends and senior survey data that explains why there’s never been a time to start your homecare business.

Seniors Will Soon Outnumber Children In America

By 2030, 1 in 5 adults will be over the age of 65, and America’s population pyramid will be “top heavy,” with more seniors alive than there are children being born, for the first time in history.

This aging trend presents obvious homecare franchise opportunities. Though we serve people of all ages, seniors are our heaviest users, and now our target audience is growing past all historical precedents.

But that’s not all…

More Than 90% Of Seniors Are Unwilling To Be Institutionalized

“Elderly institutionalization” refers to when a senior chooses or is forced to change residences when their previous home environment becomes unsuitable or unmanageable as a result of the challenges posed by their aging. Rather than live alone and “age in place,” which may be unsafe due to mobility restrictions, declining health, or dementia, these individuals move into assisted living residences or nursing homes, where they can get help with the activities of daily living (ADLs).

According to a recent AARP survey, more than 9 out of 10 seniors do not want to be institutionalized. For some individuals, moving out of the family home (especially when forced to do so) can be a traumatic experience. Researchers have linked it to loneliness, social isolation, and depression (Runcan, 2012).

Fortunately, elderly institutionalization is needed less often than you might think. “In reality, only a small proportion of older people need full residential care, but many elderly people need some degree of help and support from the community,” wrote Brown and Payne (1994) in their seminal work Introduction to Social Administration.

As such, the vast majority of seniors can achieve their aging goals and enjoy their “golden years” in the comfort of their own homes. All they need is a little help from us–and here again, homecare franchise opportunities start to appear.

As the senior population swells along with the desire to “Age in place,” the demand for homecare franchise services soars to new heights.
