New vs Existing Franchise Systems
If you are considering opening a franchise, there are so many options out there. One major thing that you need to think about is whether you chose an existing franchise, or a newer franchise.
Each has their pros and cons; existing franchise systems have many franchisees to provide testimonials for new franchisees. This also provides them with more examples of how and why their system is successful. Having many franchisees usually acts as a sign that this system does work, and can be a make or break for some people looking into opening that franchise. A con to existing systems is that they, often, so not have many territories open. With so many franchisees, the territories might get smaller, you many get a less desirable area, or you might be too close to other franchisees.
Newer franchise systems will not have many franchisees, and this might turn off prospective franchisees. But a lack of franchisees is not always a bad thing. It does not mean that their system is not successful; it just means that they are just starting out. Less franchisees, or being within the first 10 franchisees is a great opportunity. These newer systems will grant larger territories and they will tend to baby new franchisees because they are determined for you to succeed. If you succeed, they succeed and it will help them get more franchisees in the future.
